Virgin Islanders Gather against Dakota Access Pipeline, Support Standing Rock Sioux Nation

Residents gathered at Mandahl Bay, St. Thomas on September 13 to join with hundreds of thousands of protesters across the nation in an effort to defeat a massive oil pipeline slated to encroach upon Native American land.

The 400 million gallon pipeline will cross beneath the Missouri River and threaten water and wildlife in the North Dakota treaty lands of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation.

President Obama has already responded by ordering a temporary pause in pipeline plans while the Army Corp of Engineers, Department of Interior and other entities look into the matter.

Public input weighs heavily in land-use issues and over 200 Native American Tribes are asking your assistance in defending their right to say what happens on their land.
