“A never-ending mission” is how keeping Mandahl Bay free of litter can be described.
By land or by sea, we continually monitor this wetlands to safeguard against the ravages of careless human use.
Hidden from the average eye is the debris and litter that settles to the lagoon and ocean bottom. Trash from land often ensnares wildlife. Broken fishing lines, nets and lost anchors (as pictured in Pix 1) can cause severe damage to marine life for many years.
We regularly dive the bay and lagoon retrieving litter debris and freeing entangled coral. In Pix 2 one of our volunteers untangles anchor-line rope from an endangered Elk Horn Coral.
The pictures of the coral cleaning can be found at unsplash.com/@climatechangevi after Sunday, April 30, 2023. The remaining pictures are some samples of Mandahl’s vast diversity of life and scenery. Next to last is a scenic sunset taken on the road home.
