Environmental Rangers SEER Disaster Hardship Scholarships Available
Through the generosity of several local families, Hurricanes Irma & Maria Disaster Hardship Scholarships are available for the Environmental Rangers Environmental Heritage S.E.E.R. Program 2018 summer session.
These scholarships (valued at $250 per youth) will replace the $20 per weekend dues that Rangers provide to help defray the costs of providing youth Science, Education, Exploration and Research activities at Camp Umoja. SEER is the Environmental Rangers Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) program “Where Youth Learn and Teach STEM in Nature”.
The summer program runs for 12 weekends from Saturday, June 23 to Sunday, August 26 and is accepting youth ages 10 to 17.
The scholarships also give us the opportunity to increase our educational capacity and accept additional new Rangers.
To this end, we have extended the registration deadline to Friday, June 8, 2018 and changed the parents meeting to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16th.
This mandatory meeting will be at Mandahl Bay in the Camp Umoja Marine Center Building, which is headquarters to the SEER program.
If you have already registered for the program, you are still eligible to apply for a disaster hardship scholarship.
APPLYING FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP:
Everyone in the Virgin Islands was impacted in one form or another by Hurricanes Irma & Maria. To this end, our scholarship criteria are very relaxed and accommodating. Our goal is that no youth with an interest in the environment shall be denied an opportunity to learn as a result of on-going post-disaster hardships.
Because all of us are tired of endless disaster paper work and officials intruding into our homes, lives and privacy, we will not subject you to that for our program scholarships.
Simply jot down a few paragraphs describing your hardship within the criteria listed below and Email it with your youth’s application. Scholarships will be awarded based upon overall need from within the pool of applicants.
{Hardship scholarship recipients are confidential and youth Rangers will not be told who is or is not under scholarship}.
