SENATOR MARVIN A. BLYDEN GAINS SUPPORT OF U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY PLASKETT AND U.S. CONGRESSMAN JAMES E. CLYBURN TO FOCUS ON EMERGENCY HOUSING & SAFE WASTE SUMMIT (SWS)
Monday July 16, 2018, Washington, D.C-St Thomas, Virgin Islands, US House of Representatives Faith Working Group and Assistant Democratic Leader Honorable Congressman James E. Clyburn joined Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett in supporting US Virgin Islands Senator Marvin A. Blyden’s leadership of August 13-14, 2018 Emergency Housing & Safe Waste Summit (SWS) www.usvisws.com.
The inaugural SWS will convene August 13-14, 2018 in the U.S. Virgin Islands to examine hurricane disaster “Prepare, Respond, and Recover” solutions in anticipation of 16+ severe tropical storms to impact the Caribbean islands this season. With recovery work for the disastrous 2017 Caribbean storms barely underway in many cases, US HART and local Woman Owned Small Business – Caribbean Hurricane Emergency Response (C.H.E.R), were created to take the lead in coordinating inter-island and US government coordination of emergency response efforts.
C.H.E.R. Chairman Sheraine Brewster-Spivey stated, “Our first step was to gather the stake-holders and begin to build partnership ‘bridges’ among the islands. This SWS will provide the first such forum for this important collaboration to plant a much-needed emergency prepare, response, and recovery seed. However, the SWS is not meant to be a panacea to all things. We will primarily focus on forming a strategic emergency collaboration between the United States and the Caribbean Islands to collectively respond to severe tropical storms and catastrophic hurricane disaster.”
US HART Chairman Ted Moats stated, “Working with reputable non-profit organizations like Enterprise Community Partners and the World Youth Foundation, we are focused on providing recovery and ‘workforce of the future’ training programs which will funnel skilled workforce into jobs that will help to rebuild the US Virgin Islands infrastructure with local labor, and further support its resilient economic recovery.”
Set forth as a US Public Private Partnership (P3), US HART Patriotic Philanthropy will help provide the US Virgin Islands and Caribbean government decision makers a platform to open discussions about how to better prepare and manage future emergency disasters.
